Before my P4, I only spoke English. Most of my off-school time was spent with my helper. We read together, learn typewriting together, and eat and sleep together. She is from Myanmar. Her English is not very good, but we can understand each other. Singapore is a multicultural country. Only when we know how to speak English can we survive here and comfortably communicate with various ethnic groups.
I love English, as it is the main language that I use to obtain knowledge. I love the idioms. “Like a dog with two tails“, which is such a vivid description of one’s happiness. I also love this paragraph: “If you smile at me, I will give you the whole world.”
Compared with Chinese, English only has 26 letters. I just need to remember how to mix them in different ways for words. Thanks to the inventor of English.
